Breezin' Through Bangkok

We started our 2 months tour through South East Asia in Bangkok.  From the moment we stepped off the plane, we noticed huge difference in atmosphere and facilities compared to India.   There was an easy to catch subway from the airport into town, the streets were clean and there were no blaring horns.  The stress of navigating India was left behind, but we are now part of the masses of backpackers.  We stayed in the “backpacker’s ghetto” and the sheer number of party going, stupid souvenir t-shirt wearing “kids” made us cringe.  However the rows of sidewalk cafés and street carts waiting to dish up hot plates of pad thai, curries, anything you can fry and put on a stick and fresh mango smoothies were quite welcome.

On our second day Chuck and Paula, two friends from Seattle,  met up with us. They were passing through Bangkok after volunteering in Vietnam and on their way to Thailand’s famous beeches.  It was unbelievably lucky timing and it was great to see some more familiar faces from home.

Khoa San Road, aka backpacker row and a little slice of the spring break scene.

The gorgeous roof line on one of the roughly 40 Buddhists Wats (temple complexes) found in Bangkok.

As expected, images of Buddha are everywhere, some slightly larger than others.

Wat Indrawiharn- the 100 ft high Buddha- pretty impressive

The feet of a 100 ft high Buddha's huge feet.

Golden Mountain

We were told to ring the gong three times for good life, good love and good luck.

The Bangkok Skyline from the top of the Golden "Mountain".

We know, this is the second blog in a row with McDys, Sue couldn't resist posing with Ronald.

We boarded a water taxi to get down town and avoid Bangkoks awful traffic.  It was a cheap (9 Baht or $0.30) quick way to get around town.

The river is basically an open sewer so the blue tarps are held up to avoid getting splashed with the stinky water.

When in Bangkok.... tequila shots!ok it doesn't really make sense, but when do shots of tequila ever.
